La Seine Musicale is a performing arts centre situated south-west of Paris, on the island of Ile Seguin on the Seine river. It has a total surface area of 36,500 m². The building’s architecture was designed to make it look like an egg lying on its side.
The egg-shaped, glass-clad façade at the heart of the construction is encircled by a solar sail that moves with the sun. The centre took three years to build and was opened on 21 April 2017 with a concert starring Bob Dylan.
Its island home is named after Armand Seguin and is the former site of a large car factory, which was demolished back in 2005.
The great hall has a capacity of 6,000, while the smaller concert hall for classical music can hold 1,150 attendees.
