New Interior Insulation for Restoring Buildings - iQ-Therm

Remmers are proud to launch iQ-Therm to the market. The system is unique for refurbishing buildings from the inside and significantly upgrading the insulation properties whilst remaining fully breathable – with no vapour barrier.

Presented as a prize winning innovation at the Munich Bau exhibition, this ‘intelligent’ insulation consists of a breathable rigid polyurethane foam panel, adhered to the structure walls, then rendered and painted with compatible products to offer a solution which solves condensation, mould and heat loss problems all-in-one!

The installed system has an immense capacity to store and transport moisture, which buffers peak moisture loads in the air of the room, regulating the climate.

Over the long term, buildings can dry out and make significant energy savings – a dry wall conducts far less heat than a wet one!

The system is targeted at buildings where external wall insulation is not viable, (maybe because of conservation restrictions) or traditional wall insulation methods cannot be adopted.  It is estimated that up to 40% of the UK housing stock are of this type.

Explanations for the Simulation Calculation:

As an especially critical case, a 24 cm thick, solid brick masonry work wall was taken as the basis for calculations. The facade (left side) is loaded with a measured real climate (including driving rain) in the Passau region. On the inside there is an average interior room climate. The calculations are based on the following wall construction from the outside to the inside:

Exterior render made of lime cement

Brick structure with 2 mortar joints (cross joints with lime mortar)

Capillary-active cement

PUR insulation panels with holes for capillary action

10 mm thick moisture regulating render

The simulation detail shows how driving rain increasingly penetrates through the mortar joints in the structure and can dry off towards the inside through the iQ-Therm System. At no time does moisture form on the interior surface of the interior wall that could lead to infestation with mould.
