Short Story:
The 75m high Plasmor grain silo on Lowestoft Docks, was suffering from cracking and spalling concrete.

Water ingress to the structure had begun to accelerate the deterioration - particularly due to the chloride containing marine atmosphere.

Folcrete Restoration Services Limited were contracted to survey and then repair and protect the structure using Remmers Concrete Repair and Protection Systems.

Today the structure is not only as good as the day it was built - in fact it is better!

Full Story:
Folcrete Restoration Services Limited are undoubtedly the UK’s premier refurbishment specialists to the milling industry. The 75m high, 13,500 tonne capacity, monolithic concrete grain silo for Plasmor on Lowestoft Docks, was suffering from cracking and spalling concrete.

The consequent water ingress to the structure had begun to accelerate the deterioration - particularly due to the chloride containing marine atmosphere.

Using their in house powered cradle access equipment, Folcrete were contracted to survey and then fully repair and protect the structure using Remmers’ concrete repair and protection systems throughout - exactly as they had done on numerous other grain and powder silos around the UK.

Damaged concrete was removed, corroding steel reinforcement exposed and treated, then all of the surface defects were repaired with Remmers’ repair and fairing mortars, and finally the whole structure was protected with Remmers’ Concrete Acrylic and Elastoflex Anti Carbonation coatings.

Today the structure is not only as good as the day it was built - in fact it is better - now fully protected by Remmers and with a greatly increased service life for the Plasmor Group.
