Full Story:
A new lecture theatre is nearing completion for the University of Essex on their Wivenhoe Park Campus in Colchester.

The design and build contractor is Hutton Construction Limited of Colchester, who selected Westcrete Specialist Contractors Limited as the specialist waterproofing contractor.

The ‘state of the art’ design with a round, stainless steel superstructure, makes full use of the site space and includes extensive below ground construction work, that itself required innovative yet proven waterproofing techniques and systems.

The foundations and the main walls were therefore built up from the oversite drylean concrete and sealed with Remmers’ Aida Sulfatex Waterproof Grout. The external walls and concrete surfaces were all then waterproofed, prior to backfilling, with Remmers Sulfiton Profi Tight bitumen based waterproofing render, which was trowel applied to the external concrete surfaces.

The exposed waterproofed surfaces were then protected against possible mechanical damage during or after backfilling, using Remmers Sulfiton DS Protection System and Banding Kits.
