Short Story:
In response to Government demands for Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and Off-Site Production – Hanson Building Products Limited have built a demonstration 3 storey house, including basement, in the grounds of BRE at Watford.
Basements in new house construction will provide additional usable living space that can be achieved on restricted sites. It was quickly constructed directly onto the foundation slab using Hanson Twin Wall precast concrete panels filled with insulation.
Watertightness is then achieved by a full external waterproof tanking system from Remmers, this involves application of a sealing and consolidating solution, followed by two trowel applications of Remmers crack bridging bitumen tanking.
Full Story:
In response to Government demands for MMC (Modern Methods of Construction) and Off-Site Production – an initiative advocated and driven by Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott - Hanson Building Products Limited have built a demonstration three storey house, including basement, in the grounds of the Building Research Establishment at Watford.
The basement is of particular interest, as in new house construction, it will provide additional usable living space that can be achieved on restricted sites. It was quickly constructed directly onto the foundation slab using Hanson Twin Wall precast concrete panels, and filled with insulation material to meet Part L of the new Building Regulations.
Watertightness is achieved by the innovative Hanson assemblies followed by a full external waterproof tanking system from Remmers.
The Remmers system involves application of a silicate sealing and consolidation solution, onto the exterior concrete and masonry, followed by two trowel applications of Remmers’ rubber crumb-filled, bitumen emulsion tanking. This is followed by a preformed external drainage system to assist in draining water away from the structure.
This innovative project highlights the benefit of MMC and Off-Site Construction, combined with traditional construction materials to meet the latest regulations and standards with Remmers’ waterproofing technologies.
