New Interior Insulation System from Remmers Awarded a Prize for Innovation

With the properties of conventional interior insulation it is difficult to meet the requirements of the current German Energy Saving Act (EnEV). When the latest amendment of EnEV is passed by the German Federal Council, the requirements for existing buildings will increase again by approximately 30 % and by more than 20 % for thermal insulation. These increases require multi-functional system solutions that clearly improve the thermal standard of existing buildings as well as buildings under historical protection and also take the physical problems of these buildings into account. The promotion of such innovative product concepts was the goal of the group that offers this prize for innovation, Altbau 2009, and the prize was awarded on the occasion of the trade fair, BAU 2009, in Munich. The jury received 56 entries from European building material manufacturers, 10 of which were nominated. The group that awarded this innovation prize was made up of the German Work Group "Altbauerneuerung e.V.", Messe München GmbH and the DOCU group under the patronage of the German Minister, Wolfgang Tiefensee. On the first day of the fair, Monday, January 12, 2009, Remmers Baustofftechnik was awarded the prize for its invention, iQ-Therm, the "intelligent" interior insulation.

The jury emphasised the connection between moisture-protecting capillarity, high thermal insulation properties and the regulation of moisture in the air in one system. The iQ-Therm technology provides a unique combination of the reliable and proved capillary-active calcium silicate materials and the high thermal insulation capacity of organic foams. Today's and future criteria in the German Energy Saving Act (EnEV) can be met with thin construction heights.

Capillary-active fillings in holes and a thermal conductivity coefficient of 0.031 W/mK result in unique combination of properties. The thin layer of render which acts as a sorption layer and is also a part of the entire system, creates a pleasant room climate through its moisture regulating effect and protects against infestation with mould.
